Zelenskyy Says Parts of Peace Agreement ‘Fully Prepared’ After Talks With US Envoys

Kyiv/Washington: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that several documents related to a potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine are already “fully prepared” following discussions with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

In a video message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Zelenskyy said progress had been made on the framework of a peace deal, though sensitive issues still remain unresolved. He stressed that these challenges could be addressed through continued coordination with the American team in the coming weeks.

“Organizing what we spoke about today with President Trump’s envoys is crucial. As far as I can tell, some papers are almost completed, while others are fully prepared. Sensitive issues still need addressing, of course, but we know how to implement all of this together with the American team,” Zelenskyy said, adding that the next few weeks are likely to be “very busy.”

He thanked the United States for its continued engagement, saying, “Thank you, America.”

Earlier in the day, Zelenskyy described his meeting with Witkoff and Kushner as “very good” and said there were “positive ideas” that could pave the way for a lasting and mutually beneficial peace. The meeting was attended by senior Ukrainian officials, including Defence Minister Rustem Umerov and other members of Kyiv’s diplomatic and security teams.

“Today we had a very good conversation with President Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner,” Zelenskyy wrote on X. “I appreciate their positive attitude, their hard work, and their kind words and Christmas wishes to the Ukrainian people. We are working around the clock to stop this terrible Russian war against Ukraine.”

Zelenskyy said the talks focused on key aspects of the current peace proposal, highlighting ideas related to long-term security, reconstruction, and regional stability. “We all need genuine security, real recovery, and true peace—Ukraine, the United States, Europe, and all of our allies,” he said, expressing hope that the discussions would help move the process forward.

The Ukrainian President also revealed that it was decided Defence Minister Rustem Umerov would continue discussions with the US envoys to ensure momentum is not lost. “We believe this is the right approach—not to miss a single day or chance that could bring the result closer,” Zelenskyy noted.

In a goodwill gesture, Zelenskyy said he conveyed Christmas wishes to US President Donald Trump and his family, thanking them for their engagement in the peace effort.

Separately, Zelenskyy marked Christmas by appealing once again for peace, while condemning Russia for launching major strikes on the eve of the holiday. In a message to Ukrainians, he said true joy would come when the sounds of war finally end.

“We are happy when we hear the music of Christmas, but even happier when we do not hear the music of evil—when we do not hear drones and missiles flying overhead,” he said.

While no official timeline for a peace agreement has been announced, Zelenskyy’s remarks suggest intensified diplomatic efforts in the days ahead, with Washington playing a key mediating role.
